When will the new site be launched?

We aren't sure exactly, but we're hoping to launch in May of 2010. It all depends on how quickly we can build and implement a new design. Most other aspects are already in place. The forums and blog will remain active during this time.

How will this "relaunch" be different?

Macteens is finally being given the attention and resources it needs. Along with that comes a full re-imagining of how the site operates. We aren't simply redesigning the site, we're rethinking how a great community should operate. There will also be a new writing staff, new website, new sections, new content, new features... you get the idea.

Who is behind this? Is the staff all new?

Much of the writing staff will be new, but Macteens' leadership is still composed of staffers who have been around for years and care deeply about the community, including Daniel Hollister, Enda Crowley, Matt Gardner and John Mairs.

Who is doing the actual site design?

We aren't sure yet. We are looking around at qualified designers and design firms, hoping to find someone suitable for this project. If you are a designer interested in designing the new Macteens, or if you would like to recommend designers or design firms to us, use the contact form or send an email to with the information.

What will happen to the old content and forums?

Nothing from the old site has been lost, but we also have not made any clear decisions yet on what to do with the content. Some of these choices will likely be in your hands. We have considered a fresh start on the forums for a long time now, but if the community ends up disliking this, we may migrate the old content over. Old articles and content will be available on the new site, although they may be in an independent "archive" subsection.

Can I get my Gallery photos, articles or other content back?

Yes. Contact us via the contact page and let us know what you're looking to get back. In most cases, we'll happily put it in a ZIP file and email you a download link.

How can I be a part of the new site?

We're still looking for teen (or close) writers! Current plans are to give staff a stipend for their work, and/or school credit if their school allows for it. Visit the contact page or send an email to letting us know a bit about yourself, what role you are interested in, and some relevant work samples.
